Moraga Park Foundation, Kiwanis, and Contra Costa Fruit Rescue are sad to announce that due to only a few pears on the trees this year that the 2026 annual and much-loved pear harvest at JM and St Monica’s has been cancelled. The cause of this bad pear year is unknown but seems to be the case in many of the Lamorinda pear trees. The late rains have also caused the pear fire blight to spread in these trees and that will hopefully be addressed by marking the affected branches now and pruning when the trees are dormant this winter.

Our Pear Harvest is a 20 year Moraga tradition, usually held on the first or second weekend in August, at the orchard next to Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School, corner of Canyon and Camino Pablo. Typically, 10,000 pounds of pears are harvested and donated to the Contra Costa Food Bank each year.
